CELEBRATE HANUMAN JAYANTI
at Mount Madonna, California
On the auspicious day of Hanuman Jayanti (Hanuman’s birthday), you are invited to come to Mount Madonna to join us in offering prayers to Hanuman, who represents strength, power, loyalty, and great knowledge.
At Mount Madonna, this annual event celebrates the birthdays of both Hanuman and Baba Hari Dass. Hanuman Jayanti was also the auspicious day in 2003 when the Hanuman murti (statue) was installed in the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple.
Traditionally, the day’s events generally include a parade, chanting of the Sundar Kanda from the revered epic Ramayana, and a yajna (fire ceremony) at the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple. A midday bhoj (feast) concludes the festivities.
Hanuman is one of the most popular Hindu deities. He is venerated throughout India and much of Southeast Asia as the embodiment of devotion, faith, valor, strength, and energy. In the epic Indian tale of the Ramayana, he represents the embodiment of perfect selflessness in his service to the Divine, in the form of Lord Ram.
In most parts of India, the festival of Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on purnima (full moon), usually in March or April. On this propitious day, devotees visit Hanuman temples to offer prayers to Hanuman as the protector and the one who is victorious over all evils.
