Yoga Philosophy Class | Upanishads
Online | Sunday, July 13, 11:00am – 12:00pm PT
Monthly, on select Sundays, over 10 weeks, March 2 – December 7, 2025
This class is an investigation into the 10 principal Upanishads according to Shankaracharya. We will look at select Sanskrit sutras that comprise each Upanishad followed by Shankaracharya’s word-for-word translation and his commentary. The format of the class is: study, contemplation, and reflection/insight/discussion.
11:00–11:20am Study — Readings
11:20–11:30am Reflection — Contemplation
11:30am–12:00pm Insight — Discussion
The hope for this class is to find common theme(s) in all 10 Upanishads, one per month, which will shed light on our own personal search for truth, light, and peace. We will have one session on each Upanishad as follows:
- Week 1 — Introduction and Brihadaranyaka Upanishad
- Week 2 — Chandogya Upanishad
- Week 3 — Isha Upanishad
- Week 4 — Kena Upanishad
- Week 5 — Katha Upanishad
- Week 6 — Taittiriya Upanishad
- Week 7 — Aitareya Upanishad
- Week 8 — Mundaka Upanishad
- Week 9 — Mandukya Upanishad
- Week 10 — Prashna Upanishad and Conclusion
All reference texts are from the Advaita Ashrama: Publication House of Ramakrishna Math. No purchase of texts is necessary. Resources will be shared at each class and posted prior to class on Google Groups. (A Google email is NOT necessary.)
