Derik "Purna" EseliusE-RYT 500Derik (aka Purna) first encountered Yoga in 1991, just after high school, on an extended sojourn around the globe. While in India, he met and became a student of master yogi Baba Hari Dass.
He studied Yoga as a holistic system that included: asana, pranayama, meditation, bandha/mudra, fasting, periods of silence, and self-discovery; reading Siddhartha along the way.
Since then, Derik has put in hundreds of hours of study with internationally recognized teachers — including Richard Freeman, Tias Little, and Rod Stryker — and leads a yogic lifestyle fueled by daily practice.
He has taught full-time since 2001, is the founder and lead teacher of Denver Yoga Underground — emphasizing in-depth programming — and a professor of Yoga at Metro State University. Derik can show you how to align your triangle pose or execute a proper backbend and how it might relate to the larger spirit of Yoga.
In his own words, “The postures are a means to a much greater end.”
