Silence Speaks

A Silent Meditation Retreat

From the teachings of Baba Hari Dass

Intentional silence offers a rare opportunity to step away from the demands of conversation, technology, and daily responsibilities and turn your attention inward. Master yogi Baba Hari Dass observed silence for the majority of his life, demonstrating that silence is not simply the absence of speech, but a yogic practice for conserving energy, observing the mind more clearly, and cultivating a deeper understanding of our true nature.

Silence Speaks: A Silent Meditation Retreat draws from the integrated approach to sadhana (spiritual practice), as taught by Baba Hari Dass, weaving together pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, asana (postures), chanting, ritual, self-study, and time for personal reflection. Guided by longtime Mount Madonna teachers and practitioners, each day offers a balance of structured practice and spaciousness within a supportive community of fellow peace-seekers.

This silent meditation retreat welcomes both experienced practitioners and those looking to expand their understanding of Yoga and meditation. While conversation is set aside during the period of silence, participants share in chanting, kirtan (devotional singing), ritual, silent meals, and contemplative practices in nature. Time for reading, journaling, and quiet exploration allows each person to engage with the experience in their own way, with teachers available for questions and guidance.

Held at Mount Madonna in Northern California, the retreat takes place amid the peaceful redwood forest and open meadows overlooking Monterey Bay. Conveniently located near Silicon Valley, Santa Cruz, Monterey, and the greater San Francisco Bay Area, this natural setting offers space to withdraw from the pace of daily life, settle the mind, and discover the gift of profound inner stillness.

When the mind is silenced, the heart talks. The language of the heart is love, compassion, and peace.
One who has silenced the mind has attained inner peace.
