Yoga Asanas and Beyond: The Subtle Effects of Yoga Postures

Register for this program

Delve deeply into asana, experimenting with the effects on the subtle body as well as the physical body. We will practice together daily, linking asana (postures), pranayama (breath control) and dharana (concentration) in an attempt to bring us into a deeper state, receptive to meditation. We will meditate together. We will explore the physiological benefits of many postures to the musculoskeletal system, the respiratory system, the nervous system, the digestive system, the endocrine system, the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system, the urinary system and the reproductive system. Then we will examine how these same postures relate to subtle body energy and how it all is interconnected. Over the weekend we will explore the chakras (energy centers), the nadis (energy channels), and the granthi (knots). For those staying into the week, we will dig deeper into the prana vayus, and have more time to practice, ask questions, and experiment. This class is designed for those who have a regular practice and are ready to examine its effects on the physical body and on subtle body energies. The program is recommended for yoga teachers or anyone who wants to explore the physiological benefits of yoga and the subtle benefits beyond.
  • Continuing Education Credit for nurses.
  • Fulfills the spiritual practice prerequisite for John F. Kennedy University's Graduate School for Holistic Studies.
